It’s Time to Bring re:Invent to Europe

By Ofer Prossner, VP, Operations, IOD
November is here, and the word on everyone’s lips in our nice little-but-getting-bigger-every-day industry community this month is AWS re:Invent 2017. Of course, IOD will be represented at re:Invent, but as the IOD management team member based in Europe, I have to say it’s quite the schlep getting from Berlin to Vegas.

What Cloud 2015 Holds: My Predictions and Hopes for Enterprises

2014: A Reflection

t_F091CD55-1AEA-52CA-98B9-FC2558B77CF72014 has been a pivotal year in the enterprise tech world. Enterprise IT has begun to fully understand the cloud, and the development of a mutual understanding has grown. The cloud is, in turn, adjusting more and more to the features and traditional needs of enterprise  IT.

My perspective on next year is guided mostly by experiences I had this year (2014) at the AWS re:Invent conference. This huge cloud festival was the platform from which AWS publicly introduced the cloud as a means for creating today’s enterprise data center. Whether for native cloud web-scale applications or for enterprises of all shapes and sizes, the cloud is considered to be today’s best way to increase efficiency as well as flexibility in any IT environment. It is important to note that market saturation is still not here, however it’s just a matter of time until the cloud is used by everyone, covering a significant portion of the world of IT.

The AWS Ecosystem: Amazing Growth and Enterprise Cloud Focus

aws ec2 cloudThis article is cross-posted on TechTarget as part of my contribution during the AWS re:Invent show in Vegas this month. It is important to note, however, that this version is slightly different. In this article I will cover the evolution of the AWS ecosystem over the last 3 years, which, in my opinion, has been one of the most important indicators of the cloud industry’s growth.
Cloud vendors need an ecosystem. It is a vital part of their product’s and service’s maturity. In order to enable products to support more use cases, customers and revenues, you need a community of vendors that can link up to your API and extend your platform. By first developing your API and then creating a UI, you set the stage for companies that thrive off of your API and product. SalesForce, for example, holds data with their flexible platform that has quite possibly developed into the largest ecosystem in the cloud over the past few years. When external companies develop around your API, cloud vendor get 2 things: very rich services, above and beyond their core services, and a scalable business with revenues that are generated directly by ecosystem, itself.

My Expectations for AWS reInvent 2014: Lots of People and 3 Announcements

aws reinventThis is my third re:Invent, and I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to attend all of the major AWS events thus far. It is evident that Amazon is disrupting the IT industry, and some very experienced bloggers in the field have told me that it is just a matter of time before it takes over enterprise IT, as well. Maybe in another 10 years, though. Nonetheless, the change it has established in the industry is extreme, with the cloud’s agility and speed able to reach nearly every place on earth. There were 5K attendees at AWS’ first re:Invent and this year, Amazon is expecting over 12K. Vegas will be filled with geeks and big shot CIOs.

Make the Most of AWS reInvent 2014

aws reinventThese are exciting times for the world of cloud computing, and with the largest ever AWS conference just around the corner, we can’t wait to see what everyone has in store. Our successful video interviews at AWS re:Invent 2013, with leading cloud brands across the globe, has brought the popular enterprise technology channel, SDR News, and yours truly together again to see what re:Invent 2014 has to offer.
The technology and consulting partners that shared their knowledge at last year’s event have greatly benefitted from their exposure across our social channels. And with the 12,000 participants expected to show up next week, exhibitors need to be especially on top of their game in order to manifest valuable opportunities. Last year’s video interviews focused on assessments of the event and learning about the exhibitors’ positions in and contributions to the AWS ecosystem. However, this year, we’re turning the focus fully onto you.

My Take on AWS re:Invent 2013: The Cloud Makes IT Cool

AWS reinvent Keynote by Werner VoglesThe AWS cloud is here to stay. That’s a fact that is not solely attributable to its famed CTO, Dr. Werner Vogel’s, charisma. It is rather due to AWS creating its own destiny for success. This is thanks to a couple factors in particular, namely, an ideal pace of innovation and a positive and highly innovative product and marketing atmosphere (aka evangelism).

There is no doubt that the cloud put Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, in the position to fill what used to be Apple’s shoes. What is interesting, though, is that he used those shoes to mosey on over to IT’s doorstep.

AWS re:Invent 2013 Best of Show: The Winners

AWS reinvent the winnersThe AWS re:Invent floor this year was much more vibrant than last year. It included remarkable cloud products’ promotions made by the 189 conference sponsors, some of which only began their ventures one year ago. Naturally, the ‘experienced’ vendors made themselves known, with more lavish displays and a larger staff headcount, but that is to be expected.

5 Recommended AWS re:Invent Breakout Sessions for Scalability and Optimization

reinvent logoI’m OnDemand is heading to Las Vegas for Amazon’s official cloud show – AWS re:Invent. In my honest opinion, the show is the most significant conference in the cloud and IT industries, and includes a number of fantastic educational sessions.  To navigate the sessions, Amazon has provided conference attendees with a great tool that helps them sort through more than 286 sessions (up from 150 last year).
